Making the world safe for, uh, hmmm...

The New York City Transit authority proposed new rules about photography, namely "a ban on unauthorized photography, filming and videotaping on city subways, buses and Staten Island Railway trains." Such unauthorized behaviour would join "prohibitions against graffiti, littering, spitting, smoking, panhandling, loud radio playing, drinking alcoholic beverages and going onto subway tracks or into tunnels or other unauthorized areas." Anyone who is not a member of the press wishing to take photos would require written permission. Read more of the New York Times story here. Uh huh. They can't possibly do something like reform the taxi medallion system (so that, you know, there would actually be more cabs, more competition and reasonable fares), but they can take a daring step to limit photography in one of the biggest tourist meccas of the world. Makes sense to me.
