David Brooks' Bi-Weekly Idiocy

Shorter David Brooks: Look! A Republican who is an environmentalist! And he’s worked with minorities! We’re diverse! Don’t hate us all!

Ya know, this might actually mean something if you saw any diversity or arguments among actual Republicans over policy. Instead, you just get one big machine. Brooks sort of ends on a “the party wants Bush to start finding some answers, and if he doesn’t then we won’t support him” note, but the past three and a half years of full-on party discipline in the GOP are not a good historical precedent for whatever Brooks is raving about. Other than McCain (and he’s back in the fold now), who is pushing the Republicans to do anything the President doesn’t want?

Yeah, I was hoping for more when they hired Brooks. His writing has been disappointing, at best. Still, he's better than Dowd and Safire who seem to inhabit foreign realities and write for their own amusement.

Dowd is entirely too precious, and writes like a 14 year old with a text messenger. In a kid it's forgiveable, but I expect more from a columnist. I get waves of nausea when I think that in a few years we'll have legions of columnists writing like this: U no, frIn polAsee s rl cmplik8d.
