Do you smell what the Prez is cooking?

While craning my neck to see the wreckage as I drove by, I mean, while reading CNN this afternoon, I saw this headline: "Bush: Force last resort on Iran" and thought, huh, maybe he will be sensible about this after all. Saying that force in only a last resort sounds somewhat cautious. Then the article went on to quote the president more extensively (emphasis added):

U.S. President George W. Bush said on Israeli television he could consider using force as a last resort to press Iran to give up its nuclear program.
"All options are on the table," Bush, speaking at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, said in the interview broadcast on Saturday.
Asked if that included the use of force, Bush replied: "As I say, all options are on the table. The use of force is the last option for any president and you know, we've used force in the recent past to secure our country."

So, it's the last option, but it's on the table. Hope you've got a hearty appetite for what the Prez is cooking!

well if iraq was an example of last-option use of force, i think the folks in tehran better start digging some mighty deep holes.

I hate to sound too radical, but we need to stop Iran's nuclear activity, regardless of the fall-out. People who murder children for reasons of "immorality" are capable of God only knows what!

Don't we have enough problems with this at home?

"Not only is homosexuality a sin, but anyone who supports fags is just as guilty as they are. You are both worthy of death." -Rev. Fred Phelps, Baptist preacher. Fred Phelps and his church members got national attention when they showed up at the funeral of Matthew Sheppard, a teen beaten to death by Christians for being homosexual, and "picketed" his funeral, holding signs saying "God Hates Fags" and "Matt in Hell".

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."-Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, a Christian hate group

"Homosexuality should be punished... if a man, by castration, if a woman, by cutting through the cartilage of her nose a hole of one-half inch in diameter as least." -Dr. Paul Cameron, Christian doctor who provides homosexual "facts" to the public

"Practicing homosexuals individually may come up against anti-gay societal sentiment in the form of denied jobs or housing. This is OK." -"The Gay Agenda", by the Christian Coalition

And when we talk about nuclear activity, are we sure we don't mean "nuclear activity," a la Iraq? I mean, sure, they're explicitly doing something with nuke power, but are we sure they're weaponizing anything?

Can we please await certainty or whatever realistically can stand in for it before we go pounding another poor country into the ground at great costs to an economy that can't bear the strain, a military that can't cover all these flashpoints at once, and an administration that doesn't know how to leave military planning to those people with the balls to serve and couldn't conduct effective strategic ops sufficient to get themselves out of paper bags?

Frankly, I'm happy to see countries adopting and encouraging nuclear power these days. It's not perfect, but it's preferable to coal.

And in any event, the post is plainly about Bush's denial/affirmation, reluctant/eager, aw-schucks/bring-it-on par for the course hip-deep pile of bullshit. Do you smell what he's cooking? I sure do. And whether you like what's for dinner, it's for dinner in any event.

It'd be nice if, when it came to beating ploughshares into swords, the man could say what he means. If this so-called populist president actually had enough respect for the salt-of-the-Earth-folk who voted him into office to talk to them like adults. If so, he might have more than 30% support for the Iraq war effort, which is going to look like a full-blown popular mandate by comparison to what'll happen if he opens a second front in the War on the Bogeymen.

Why worry about Iran's potential bombs - the president has not done a single constructive thing to stop far, far worse from the North Koreans, and he's pretty much accused the leader of North Korea of being a deformed, insane baby-eater. And he's openly rewarded Pakistan with all kinds of kind words and money - even of the biggest weapons proliferators around, and is home to a military dictator, a terrorist-friendly military/intelligence bureaucracy, and probably Osama bin Laden. Scary states with nukes worry me more than scary states that might have 'em in 10 years.

And I'm still wondering about ignoring North Korea if they are the manufacturer of massive amounts of counterfit dollars. Economic and military aggression. What's not to like in justification for a chance to "layeth the smacketh down"?

"cutting through the cartilage of her nose a hole of one-half inch in diameter as least" What on earth is this supposed to do? Identify her? Make it possible to lead her away from hot chicks like a bull?

I was going to comment that a decent portion of the hipster lesbian community has evidently acceded to the cartilage-piercing anyway; his work is done.

I do wonder, however, whether he's a medical doctor. If he is, shouldn't his license to practice be revoked? I'd say he needs to brush up a bit on his Hypocrates.
