Lowell Weicker Excites, Then Maybe Disappoints

The former governor and senator from Connecticut (actually the Republican Senator Joe Lieberman defeated in 1988 - by running to Weicker's right) is considering challenging Joe Lieberman in the 2006 election. Now of course Lieberman is very popular in Connecticut (almost unbeatable really), the last time they face off Weicker lost, and Weicker himself doesn't want to run. But if Weicker defeated Lieberman, that would be beautiful.

UPDATE: Maybe that was a really short-lived trial balloon. Though the first story is actually dated more recently.

As a lifelong democrat nothing would make me happier than to see leiberman out of the US senate. Let the republicans have him. Democrats made their obvious dislike of his politics when he couldn't get enough votes for one delegate during his campaign for president on the democratic ticket. He is not as popular in Connecticut as his well oiled political machine would have you think. Mr. Weiker, give us a choice. By the way, what were you thinking Al Gore?

I'm with you. I've been saying, and for awhile now that I would trade Lieberman for Olympia Snowe in a heartbeat.
