Are you kidding me? USA today and AP ranked Penn State as number 3 and Ohio State as number 4? I've checked both Yahoo and ESPN websites and it says the same thing, they gave Penn State the #3 spot for barely edging out a team that already had four losses this year.
As to your question about whether LSU or Penn State should be ranked higher, the polls split. I'm sure this is in part because while LSU did get beat by Georgia and West Virginia beat Georgia, it was a much closer game than LSU's clobbering of Miami who was ranked only one behind Georgia going into the bowl games.
Another question: who was the least valuable player for the Rose Bowl, the Texas kicker or the USC coach who called a time out with 20 seconds left when they were behind by 1, just to make sure they didn't get behind by 3?

Look, I know the polls put Penn State #3 - but after watching (at least part of) all 4 BCS bowls I think that's inappropriate and simply a result of the fact that 1) they were ranked higher before the bowls and 2) didn't lose (though they came far closer than Ohio State and WVU). Ohio State and WVU and LSU all played tough opponents and played, in my opinion, much stronger games than Penn State (which seemed to try to do all it could to try and lose to a Florida State team that wasn't nearly the quality of, for example, Georgia). And I think if they'd been matched against Penn State in a bowl last week both Ohio State and WVU could have dispatched Penn State. Hence, my rankings.
