The Other Side of the Pond

While it's always good to now that foreign heads of state have taken abstinence pledges, it's also nice to move away from the celebutainmet of CNN now and again to see what the grownups consider to be the pressing news of the day:

1. Curbing climate change is unlikely as "rising concentrations of greenhouse gases may have more serious impacts than previously believed."

2. The EU is set to hold last-minute talks with Iran - at Tehran's request - to try to resolve a stand-off over Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

CNN has the SAG awards.

Well, it is the Celebrity News Network after all (well, on the off days when it's not the White Chicks in Danger network).

And speaking of the SAGs - which I SO know was Binky's point - I'm increasingly annoyed at Felicity getting all the Desperate Housewives love when Ms. Hatcher and Ms. Cross make that show. I'd I'm going to be annoyed if Philip Seymour Hoffman wins at the Oscars too - c'mon people, vote for Joaquin or Heath or Jake ... but hey, I'll probably put up as Oscar nomination post tomorrow, so I'll stop talking about this not-very-newsy "news" in this thread now.

All I can say is that I watched season 1 on dvd a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it - EXCEPT for the Felicity storylines which are as tiresome and expected as anyone can imagine, but which I suppose I also understand there is an audience for. I just wish that audience had better taste.
