Is anyone planning on watching the SotU tomorrow? I must admit that I can't bring myself to. Its not that I can't stand the President (I can't), its just that its so, well, boring. There isn't any drama (no new policy proposals), and there isn't any real useful politics (how many times people give standing ovations isn't really politics).
If I'm lucky, I'll read the thing on Wednesday.

Posted by: binky at January 30, 2006 09:52 PM | PERMALINKWe'd have to put some limits on the drinking, else we might not be coherent (or alive) on Wednesday.
Posted by: baltar at January 30, 2006 09:55 PM | PERMALINKNo. I'll listen to the two-minute recap on NPR on Wednesday morning. I confess that the drinking game idea is tempting, though.
Posted by: jacflash at January 30, 2006 10:06 PM | PERMALINKDoesn't Comedy Central do a running-comment on the thing? That could be entertaining. Too bad we don't have cable.
I'll likely just find a recap on Wednesday, too. NPR, WaPo, NYTimes or something. I'll have to wait for the Economist's take for a week or so. That's usually worth it.
Posted by: baltar at January 30, 2006 10:17 PM | PERMALINKA certain regular reader of ours in DC is planning to watch and engage in a drinking game - perhaps he'll share the rules of his shindig and you can take part from afar. Me? I plan to be at a bar - no matter who's president I find the thing far too tedious to endure once the riddle of which cabinet member they've sent to a gourmet pizza kitchen (errrrr, secret location) is solved.

Posted by: Moon at January 31, 2006 10:12 AM | PERMALINKIf one were to accompany the SotU with a drinking game, what would be the most appropriate thing to drink?
Posted by: jacflash at January 31, 2006 11:07 AM | PERMALINKWhat was W's beverage of choice? Followed by a snort of coke.
Posted by: binky at January 31, 2006 11:27 AM | PERMALINKI'm thinking it should be something French. Not wine. Absinthe, maybe.
Posted by: jacflash at January 31, 2006 11:35 AM | PERMALINKooh, don't suggest that. someone who lives in my house -- not me, i swear -- actually has a bottle of absinthe he ordered from overseas.
Posted by: moon at January 31, 2006 12:13 PM | PERMALINKScotch. Good, old, single-malt Scotch. It might wash some of the taste out of your mouth.
