New Orleans Votes: Round 1

Follow the action as it unfolds.

If Mitch Landrieu doesn't make the run-off I'm likely to be cranky tomorrow.

Nagin made the run off. New Orleans IS stuck on stupid.

"Where's the love for Ron Forman?"

I don't know - apparently not in the New Orleans electorate. :) Hopefully Mrs. Forman likes him.

As to Nagin, I sure wouldn't have voted for him, but at the same time I can see why a lot of the city would have. They foresee changes coming that they don't want, they want a strong, constant voice against them, and they trust Nagin to be that voice. There's nothing irrational or stupid about voting according to that view. It's just one that neither you nor I share.

It looks like Nagin will win round 2. Isn't there some way for north Louisiana to secede from south Louisiana? Or at least let's come up with a new slogan for it: "New Orleans: it's like a whole dumb, lazy, and corrupt other country."

Uh, there aren't dumb lazy and corrupt people in North Louisiana? And gee that state of North Louisiana is likely to be about as popular as - Southern Arkansas.

given the state of repairs of the levees, i put the odds at about 20% that the secession of southern louisiana will be effectuated by wind and water by the end of august. perhaps nagin will be swept away with history and the failed attempts to restore even the inadequate status quo re distaster preparedness circa this time last year.

by the way, morris, regardless of it's accuracy, i liked your slogan a lot. it made me laugh.

Thanks, Moon. It sort of beat out the other slogan. New Orleans: It's no longer a nice place to visit, so please, please, please come live here.
