CNN is off the f&%@*&g reservation

Yes, more cussing.

CNN has gone beyond the utter stupidity of hiring Glenn Beck, a raving lunatic and now has up a commentary "special to CNN" by Dr. James Dobson, creepy shill for all things reactionary.

The man has an "earned" PhD. What on earth is an earned PhD?

What are they thinking?

Maybe they ought to think about something like this, a reminder of the history of the same kind of attitude that Dobson promotes.

Or perhaps they ought to think, and perhaps remind Dobson, about the real threats to marriage - which are higher among the supposed people of faith he claims to represent - like divorce, violence against women, and alcoholism. Not gay marriage.

No, wait. There can't possibly be thinking involved.

Earned? As opposed to mail-ordered, maybe? I can not believe CNN actually solicited a commentary from this man. Oh, wait, yes I can, because I used to work in news.

Organizations like CNN don't see themselves as culpable when they give extremists and haters a venue for their spewing. They just see themselves as reflecting what's already out there. Plus, you know, ratings and ad revenue.

A lot of these evangelical minister guys seem to have "doctorates". I know at least some of those are diploma-mill specials. Dobson, who appears to have gotten his the traditional way, probably felt that the distinction was worth making. I probably would too, in his shoes.

As for hiring this twit, remember that CNN invented "Crossfire". People tune in to be pissed off.

Yeah, Dobson's bio says he was a professor at USC. That's pretty legit. But I just wonder about the "earned" thing. It's odd.

If a lot of your competitors had mail-order "doctorates", wouldn't you feel at least a little need to stress that you'd gotten yours the old-fashioned way?

Not really. Although I think the standard academic class hierarchy practice of listing institutions is one way to do that.
