The More Things Don't Change

Remember how back in 2002 the Bush administration waited until a few days after Congress voted on the Iraq War resolution to bother to disclose the extent of North Korea's nuclear activity? Well, in 2006 they've gotten even less subtle. They waited all of HOURS after the US House voted on their (freakishly awful, please-tell-me-you-are-kidding) let's help India build a bigger nuclear program deal (yet more evidence that Bush, Rice and company really can't do diplomacy) to disclose that they'd decided to impose sanctions on 2 Indian firms for engaging in missile-related transactions with Iran.

First, if this was true, it is horrific. I just checked the Indian news and they have named the two companies who are sanctioned: Sabero Organics Chemical and the Sandhya Organics Chemical. This is along with an Austrian company and six Chinese companies. They were not selling nuclear materials. They were selling chemical materials. However, that is still bad.. As bad as the US providing weaponery to Islamic militants in the 70s and 80s.

However, the nuclear deal is within two governments, not private companies. These projects in India will be under governmental supervision. Nuclear plants always have been under governmental supervision in India.
