More Evidence that Politics is Hollywood for Ugly People

Well since I was on The Hill's site looking at that piece on Wakim, I surfed around and came across this depressing feature - the 50 Most Beautiful People on Capitol Hill. After checking out the top 20 (Senator Ensign of Nevada is the highest rankking member of Congress on the list, coming in at #20), I couldn't bear to look any further. There are pretty people on the Hill - but these aren't them. Ok, number 1 is pretty, but except for her the women are rather ordinary. And except for a 38 year old lobbyist at #9, the guys ... well, it is to laugh. That dude at #2? As if. Exactly who (oh, that poor poor soul) did he sleep with to get ranked at #2? But it's not of course just him - he leads of a set of largely mediocre guys.

Anyway head on over there if you want to laugh at somebody's peculiar definition of hot - or you just want to witness a certain type of karmic balance (yeah these people might be influential or have bright futures - but hey, you're prettier than them).

who pissed in your cornflakes? jeez. i didn't see more than one or two in the top 20 that struck me as wildly inappropriate for a pretty list. were they all my type? certainly not, but i think you're response is a bit disproportionate.

(disclosure, i was secretly hoping that one of the people you lambasted was a friend of mine who works on the hill, a pretty girl of 30 or so, but evidently only like 5 or so women over 25 qualified for the list, which prompts an interesting question: how many obscenely young people are in positions of power with our legislators!? (said friend was on the Hill at 22 or so, too, so i can't say i'm shocked, but still.))

Well from my own observation - nothing scientific - people land there right out of college, then leave, then some come back later, some don't. So the number of people who are helping write laws and whatnot in their early 20's is indeed higher than many realize.

OK, to be fair I looked at the rest of the list and there seemed to be a much higher proportion of actually pretty people in the remaining 30 than there were in the first 20. And since I found the guys especially average, I'll note that John Dingell's 24 year old CoS (wow!) is pretty cute. But my favorite thing in the next 30 was that they had a FoxNews blonde listed after Rep. John McHugh. I find that REALLY funny.

And it's not like I said they were hideous - just not very pretty.

They were pretty though. They may not look like models, but they are pretty in general. I guess everyone has their definition of beauty, but I know that most people wouldn't consider then not-beautiful. Maybe not hot, but cute/pretty, probably.

I guess it's free publicity of these people :)

I wouldn't call most of them pretty. I'd say attractive, in a clean cut way. But my ideas of pretty are probably not mainstream. For the record, I think the cutest one was the cop (she kinda looks like Nelly Furtado), and that the NEA liaison looked kinda scary (the eyeliner! it may work for Johnny Depp, but not for you!).
