Sunday Night Links

The Sunday papers didn't excite me. Yeah, yeah, cease-fire in Lebanon (I'll believe it when I see it). British look for more terrorists. The FAA decides that banning lipstick won't make anyone safer. I'm unexcited.

If you haven't read this commentary on the "Left Behind" series of apocalyptic Christian novels, you should (start at the bottom).

Kung-Fu Monkey doesn't do much politics, but when he does, its good. Well worth a read.

Every Sunday, Lawyers, Guns, and Money puts up a different history of some battleship. Very interesting, especially for those who geek out on naval stuff.

If you aren't reading The Cunning Realist, you should.

If you aren't reading The Comics Curmudgeon, you aren't getting everything out of the daily newspaper funnies that you should.

That's all. Alternative suggestions are welcome.

The Well-Timed Period debunks a load of misinformation about Plan B, and reminds us that the government rejected OTC access before the review process was complete.

Have you actually tried to read the Left Behind books? They're awful. Beyond awful. They make Ludlum look like a literary giant. They're so flagrantly self-evidently awful that snarking them for their failures as professionally-constructed works of fiction seems almost beside the point, like snarking a car for having wheels.

But whatever their failures, they certainly tapped into a vein of interest, one that seems to be manifesting in other parts of the world too. That, of course, is what makes them interesting.

Yes, but the interesting part to that link to Left Behind I put up is that the blog is by a Christian, and he criticizes the series from a Christian point of view. That's different from normal snark (same outcome, though).

Ah, I see: I didn't scroll down far enough the first time. Yeah, he nails it pretty well.
