The Most Loathsome Member of Congress?

John Boehner, Marsha Blackburn, Denny Hastert ... there are a depressing number of people whose recent behavior "earns" them consideration for that ignominious "honor". There's nasty, there's partisan ... and then there's claiming the Democrats are loyal to Osama bin Laden.

Oh, c'mon, I wouldn't even put Boehner in the top twenty. Of course, I'd probably rank Pelosi ahead of him.

I don't recall Pelosi ever claiming that the Republicans want to protect terrorists, not Americans - something Boehner has said of Democrats.

Maybe it's just me and my post-9/11 mindset but I'd be hard-pressed to think of many nastier comments by House members (now if we added Harvard professors to who we are considering ...).

And as to Mollohan - I still don't get this at all. I haven't seen any proof there's a there there. It might not be pretty, but it's the kind of thing you see in loads of politician's backgrounds - especially in small states where everyone knows everyone.

And jumbling all these folks seems problematic to me. I don't know all their stories, but I imagine some of them stand out quite a bit from the pack (Jefferson, Doolittle, and Senator Burns come to mind as likely suspects).
