Nao suportam mais, minha ausencia*

How was your weekend?

The Flaming Lips

Drive By Truckers (and they seriously gave my favorite band on the planet a run for their money on best show ever)

Duran Duran (who unlike the Cure are neither bloated nor at all boring)

Kings of Leon

Shooter Jennings

Ozomatli

Yerba Buena

Broken Social Scene

The Whigs

Jamie Lidell

Marva Wright

Hot 8 Brass Band

Soul Rebels

Let us not speak of My Chemical Romance. I have decided that they are the kids' version of Poison.

*Ja pediram a Deus, paciencia! Apologies to Portela.

Just so we're clear here, is that "favorite band" reference to the Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd, or Led Zeppelin?

Just curious.

That would be favorite live band, which because of my age, has to be The Flaming Lips. I saw "Pink Floyd" twice on their Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour, but even though they were the hardest working band I've ever seen (they played from 8 pm sharp until after midnight, including 2 sets and 2 encores), and I love David Gilmore (who your boy Mike Cooley's style* reminds me of sometimes), they were not the Best Live Band Evah. Likewise Led Zeppelin, whose career was over before I was old enough to go to concerts, and I saw Robert Plant (in Rio, following Sepultura) who was still a showman though his voice has lost the high registers, and I saw Page in a stupor drooling off the end of his cigarette** on the Outrider tour. That was one of the saddest moments in rock and roll I have ever witnessed.

*And I totally mean that as a complement. He can make that shit sing.

**You think I'm kidding. I'm not. He lit a cig, and as he played, kept it in his mouth and drooled so much it put the cig out. On a semi-related note, he also stuck the lit cig in the fret of his guitar, something I had not seen repeated until watching Jason Isbell.
