Rutgers Wins! And the BCS Explodes!

Undefeated Rutgers just upset (formerly) undefeated Louisville! How high will they rise in the polls now? How high should they rise (doubtless higher than the "tradition"-minded polls will place them, but how high do you think)? In any event - how about that upcoming game between them and WVU? Rice vs. Slaton. Now that should be a game.

as you know, i've got an iron in this fire, but i'm actually not sure what i think. even if they beat WVU, i don't really think they deserve to play for the title. it's not that i don't think the traditional powerhouse conferences are overrated, but there are some very good teams out there. as long as we get into a BCS bowl -- and honestly, even if we lose to WVU in a close game, i think we deserve that much (though it won't happen unless they win out) -- i'm happy.

I'd say I might be where you are - but if this team beats Louisville and WVU and is undefeated, well, I think they should really be considered.

That said, a 1 loss team that wins the SEC, the winner of the Cal/USC game and Texas (again presuming all those teams have no more than 1 loss) all deserve to be considered too. And a 1 loss WVU team ... well, that's unlikely - but seems reasonable to consider.

What I do NOT want to see (other than the ever-fluffed Notre Dame, but that should go without saying), is a Michigan/Ohio State rematch. What in the hell would that prove? Either the team that wins game one wins again (shocking!), or the teams go 1-1 and ... I thought the BCS was about providing clarity and a clear #1. Anyway, that game on the 18th should be treated as what it is, a playoff for one spot in the national championship (and all this is of course presuming Michigan gets by Northwestern).

a michigan OSU rematch would be a debacle. i don't see it happening. other than that, who knows. i'll be pissed if we're not in the top 8 this week. because if we are, and we win out, there's no way in hell we should fall out by the end of the season.

there's always the dream scenario. :-)

I don't mind the Pitt humbling WVU part, but I can't in good conscience endorse anything like the FSU/UF scenario.
