Gnarls is the Only Correct Choice

In case you've had a lobotomy and actually care who the Grammy nominees are ...

Wow. There's a lot of crap out there. Award-worthy crap? Eh ... it's the Grammys. And who knew Elvis Costello and Lionel Richie were still working? Well, I so don't care about these, but if this respected body (cough) hopes to have any credibility whatsoever, they better throw multiple awards at Gnarls Barkley. I mean what else could even be considered for Record of the Year? But it is the Grammys, so you never know ...

Final thought - How in the hell are The Pussycat Dolls up against Death Cab for Cutie? You'd think The Black Eyed Peas would beat them both for the award, but that's not the point. To me comparing the Dolls and DCFC ... just contemplating how to begin to process such a comparison I feel like my brain my fall right out of my head or explode or something. What the hell?

The Flaming Lips are up for three grammies. Ridiculous. Worst album in years and they get nominations. Nothing for the Soft Bulletin, one of the most amazing albums of the 1990s (and not just by this fangirl's estimation... look at many of the top 100 lists, and the critics still cream themselves over it), and one grammy for the instrumental track off of Yoshimi (which was to my mind not half as interesting as would have been a nomination in the pop category for Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, one of the most perfect pop songs since, well, Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend). This confirms my view that the grammies are really just retroactive recognition, combined with jumbled up nominations of all the crap that the target demographic is listening to. Look at the category that the FLips are in for best instrumental this year... competing against Joe Satriani, David Gilmour and Peter Frampton. Hello?! Peter Frampton? And in another category, they are up against Gnarls Barkely, who are their opening act for their next two shows. Sheesh. And I even like Gnarls a lot.

Anyway, yeah, um, not like I care.

why you gotta hate on elvis!? the new album is a great return to the rock and roll roots, after wildly inventive forays into different genre and unlikely collaborations. seriously, he's at the top of his game (my fave is 2004's (i think) album-length collaboration with burt bacharach -- brilliant, if you like that sort of thing, and i didn't think i did until i heard the album).

the grammies could recognize elvis retroactively for the rest of his life and they'd still fail to give him his due.

(and now moon has revealed his corollary -- or one of them, anyway -- to binky's FLips preoccupation.)
