WVU Doesn't Make It

To the surprise of probably no one, the WVU Mountaineers will not be playing in the NCAA tournament this year. To the surprise of some, neither will Syracuse. There will only be 6 Big East teams in the tournament.

All I have to say about this is: Go Gators!

Go Islanders! No, not the second New York hockey team... the 15th seeded Islanders of Texas A&M -- Corpus Christi!

Any upsets that those of us who might fill out a bracket should watch out for?

Posted by: Armand at March 12, 2007 11:34 AM | PERMALINK

I see our friend Norbizness has the right team winning on his bracket.

I did it despite mildly dissing Billy Donovan. I am rooting for Georgetown, though, assuming that my Longhorns get bounced by UNC, which they will.

Looking at the South - Am I crazy to be considering picking Louisville over A&M (the game will be played in Kentucky) and Nevada over Memphis?

Posted by: Armand at March 12, 2007 04:07 PM | PERMALINK

Okay - did my bracket - and boy am I ever boring. Final Four: Florida, Kansas, Georgetown, Ohio State. Champion: Georgetown.

Y'all just ignore me while I look forward to Opening Day and the NFL draft and just sort of skip this "amateur" abomination. :-)

Hoya Saxa - Georgetown over Florida

Posted by: ryan at March 15, 2007 12:13 PM | PERMALINK

The first game is ended - and I'm already 0-1 in the tournament!

But hey, at least Bobby Knight is going home now.

Posted by: Armand at March 15, 2007 02:23 PM | PERMALINK

yeah, i blew it on TT also, i picked up the next two.

oh, and going back a bit, i'm pretty sure you're crazy to have nevada over memphis, or really anyone before ohio state.

of course, as my final 4 reveals, i'm biased: i've got Florida over Duke and Memphis over Texas, with Memphis winning it all (sorry Binkster, but it's not like i can start agreeing with you now ;-).

the most notable choice for me is that i've finally abandoned pitt for pool purposes (though i'll still pull for them; my bracket's a mess and a guaranteed loser anyway), ppicking them to lose in the first round to wright state. screw it. betting pitt aggressively has proved foolish the past few years; this year i'm betting against them aggressively. this year they're just not as good as their record or their seed, and wright state just might be better.

Duke?!? Seriously?

Posted by: Armand at March 15, 2007 03:55 PM | PERMALINK

no. duh. my bad. i have duke making the sweet 16 (thanks to wright state's putative upset of pitt; but i stand by the duke pick even if pitt advances, for the same reason i have pitt losing tonight) but i have florida over UCLA in the final 4. sorry about the mix-up.

Posted by: moon at March 15, 2007 04:20 PM | PERMALINK

Hahaha - Duke doesn't even make it to the second round. Yay!

11 of 16 yesterday, and of course pitt looked fantastic. this is my worst start in years -- if i don't run the table today, i'm basically out of my pool, which is pretty big.

I was 11 of 16 too - and I'm down one Sweet Sixteen team (serves me right for going upset crazy and predicting ODU to go that far).

Posted by: Armand at March 16, 2007 11:38 AM | PERMALINK

i'm down two sweet 16s, and after watching pitt last night, i can't help but suspect that by abandoning them i've assured their penetration deep into the tournament.

Winthrop won! Yay!

Though why do I always do rather poorly with those 8-9 games?

Btw, if anyone cares and hasn't noticed, next up for WVU in the NIT is NC State.

Half of the first 6 games today have gone to overtime? Exciting stuff.

Posted by: Armand at March 17, 2007 08:18 PM | PERMALINK

In case you haven't noticed, all 4 #1 seeds have advanced to the NIT Final 4. In New York WVU will face Mississippi St. and Air Force will face Clemson.

Posted by: Armand at March 22, 2007 10:31 AM | PERMALINK

Alright! The NCAA Final Four is set. It includes 2 #1 seeds (Florida and Ohio State), 2 #2 seeds (Georgetown and UCLA), and not a single team from the ACC.
