"Child care linked to later behavior problems"

Not so much:

The researchers said that the increase in vocabulary and problem behaviors was small, and that parenting quality was a much more important predictor of child development.

But hey, that's not an exciting headline.

The Times version is no better:

Headline:
"Poor Behavior Is Linked to Time in Day Care"

Caveat:
"The effect was slight, and well within the normal range for healthy children, the researchers found. And as expected, parents’ guidance and their genes had by far the strongest influence on how children behaved."

CNN doesn't surprise me at all. Indeed, one of my pastimes has become watching their headlines evolve through the day, even as the articles stay the same. It really looks like there's a committee of people who see the page in ascending order of importance, each having a trump over what's been decided before. Often, the headlines become more specious as they go on, more salacious at least.

But the Times usually is a little better.
