4 Days Until the Kentucky Derby

As many of you know, I sort of follow it most years. It's kind of silly really as it's a terribly unrepresentative horse race - 20 horses running in one race is nuts - but at the same time it's an event that calls for serious fun and rituals, and who doesn't like that? Plus it features some of the most impressive animals on the planet. So if you want to be ready for Saturday, you might want to start reading up on the contenders at sites like Bloodhorse, Kentucky Derby 133, or of course the massive coverage provided by the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Wtf? Now I'm not encouraging betting or anything, and even if I was I'm not saying he's going to win, but if I read this correctly the Morning Line odds on Dominican are 20-1. Ummm, that's a sweet price for the winner of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. A really sweet price. Again, not saying he'll win, but if one were theoretically looking for value ...

Damn, one of my two favorite horses (which were Street Sense and Circular Quay) actually won this thing (and thankfully snapped that tiresome Breeders Cup Juvenile Curse). Maybe I should take up betting after all. Though what's fun about betting on a favorite?
