Syracuse Over Louisville!?!

Okay, West Virginia's overwhelming win today has got to be good for the Mountaineers. But the fact that the #2 team in the conference (Louisville) has been far behind the Orange Little Sisters of the Poor for much of the afternoon, and seems likely to lose to them ... can't think that'll be good for us in ratings that take into account the quality of our competition.

I continue to be appalled by big-time college sports. Whatever happened to education?

Hardy-har-har, it is to laugh (at least around here).

Well Louisville closed the gap - but not enough, and it still lost. Syracuse won for the first time this year.

Next possible big upset of the day - Nebraska is ahead of Ball State by only one point. There's one minute left, and Ball State has the ball in Nebraska territory.

btw, i'm not sure what you're using as your index, but i'm pretty sure that, coming into this weekend, your #2 program in the big east was rutgers. as well it should be.

Even with the loss of Louisville on Saturday, 50% of the teams in the Big East remain in the top 25. Something no other conference can claim. Of course we are the smallest.

In addition, there are 23 undefeated teams remaining. Five of them are in the Big East - more than any other conference, despite the fact that its the smallest league.

i just want to thank your boys for screwing up my boys' title hopes. it's still a couple of years away for rutgers, barring a fluke, but this year's fluke would have involved WVU being a top-4 team when rutgers met them. of course, i can't say i feel real good about rutgers going 3-0 against l'ville, WVU, and USF anyway. i think the big east has overplayed its hand; intra-conference parity is poison to title hopes.

Uh, if you can't feel good about your team's chances against USF, Louisville and WVU - do you really think it ever had title hopes?

And hey, your team and USF now seem to be the leaders in the fight to win the conference, so you're not really in a bad position at all at this point.

As to your note regarding parity I'd respond with "maybe". There's something to that. But 2 of the last 4 years the BCS champ has come from the SEC, where there are usually at least a handful of teams that can bludgeon each other's title chances. But that doesn't always happen (see LSU and Florida) - success can still emerge from that situtaion.

Jpoff! Didn't know you were lurking around! I was just talking about you last night... hope all is well, and to hear from you in "real life" one of these days.
