Unger Backs Out of Race Against Capito

Looks like West Virginia won't have a single interesting congressional race this year, now that state senator John Unger (D) has dropped his challenge to Rep. Shelley Capito (R).

Interesting. I wonder what was behind that decision I mean, besides "I can do more for WV by staying in the state government etc and so forth." I once shared a stage with him, and he seemed like the type that intended to and could go far. Unless SM-C is showing ironclad support.

Well over at WVBlue the main theory going around is that the Manchin-Capito friendship might've been too much to overcome, even if Unger had the support of the DCCC, Mollohan and Rahall. But there are also some people criticizing that view. In any event, yeah, it's really peculiar. Especially since filing for the races ends on Monday.
