The New York Times Profiles Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI)

I so like this guy, and he's a great face for the party. It's good to see him finally get some attention. And yes, he should be on the Veep short-list.

I like Reed, all the more so because he's so very much not the typical RI Dem hack, but... RI's hardly a swing state, y'know? And yes, I know the traditional VP calculus is out the window this year, but are we sure it's that far out the window?

He'd be a decent choice for any of several Cabinet slots, though.

Yeah, his ability to succeed and not be part of the traditionally hacktastic RI scene is yet another good thing about him.

And I don't know. With the rare exception of certain governors I don't think Veeps are likely to help you much in a state (much less a region). I think reinforcing picks are good for both the message of the campaign and showing a belief in your campaign's strength, so personally I think there's nothing wrong with taking Reed on that score.

Though sure, he's not the likeliest pick (if I was betting, as of today I'd bet on Kaine) - but I think he merits serious consideration.
