Wanted

It's blowing far past its estimated box office, and I can see why. Is it a "good" movie? Eh, no, I suppose not really. But I had a great time watching it. It's fun and quick, light on plot, and with an engaging starring turn by James McAvoy. And an appealing McAvoy surrounded by quick effects, a hitwoman played by Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman playing another wise, authority figure ... is it any surprise the US would like it? I'd say it has one set piece that goes off the rails (ba-dum-ching!). But other than that - it's fun, Jolie is sexy, and I like McAvoy more and more with each passing second (which is not a minor compliment, as I've liked him enormously for years).

Over $51 million for the weekend - quite impressive for a "R" film. It's Jolie's biggest openning weekend ever.

It was adequate. Things that were good (McAvoy, special effects) things that were not so good (Jolie, a wooden Freeman, plot?). Of course there will be more, with the plot such as it is most definitely the set up for the late 20th C. angsty anti-hero. But, what else do you want from a summer movie?

I liked Iron Man better, but, you know, I'd pay to watch Downey Jr. walk around - well dressed of course - and say witty things for 90 minutes. I think I could watch more of McAvoy do the angsty routine.

Also, there was one scene where you catch a glimpse of Jolie's legs. Good heavens someone get that woman a cheeseburger. And It was nice to see Elfman come up with something other than a Tim Burton-eque soundtrack. The Little Things is actually not a bad song.

Ah, you noticed the score too! Yeah, the music was good.

And true, Jolie's limbs are rather odd - but she's still beautiful.
