McCain Gambles

Thought Morris might be interested in this. I believe Obama is a poker player. I don't know if he bets the kind of money that McCain does.

UPDATE: Here's an even better summary of the article.

Thanks for the heads up. I think the article is interesting in the perspectives it gives, but they say more about the person writing than the ones written about. For instance, one of the first people I worked with in treatment was a craps player, and he didn't want anyone coming up to him or celebrating in such a way as to throw off his, well, throw. He was cool and collected, and that's how he played craps.

We have certainly had a bunch of card players who are not cool and collected, they want to beat the other players and they want everyone to see them do it.

I would note that playing against the odds is what all gambling is, not just craps. If you're not playing against the odds, you're not gambling. That McCain enjoys gambling does not surprise me. I get so frustrated with all these statistics about how because of the war, veterans are abusing alcohol, etc. The fact is, the military attracts people who take risks, people who drink and party hard, and maybe start a fight later. Or maybe it's that people who do these things are attracted to the military. I don't know. But Teddy Roosevelt was right.

And calling McCain a gambling addict because he bets a lot of money is as reckless as calling Obama a coke dealer. There is such a thing as a serious social gambler who spends time and money on gambling because they enjoy it. Does McCain like playing against the house? Of course, he's partnered with Dems on a bunch of stuff. Does Obama believe he can bluff others into doing what he wants? Of course, it would explain his Middle East policy.

Matt could have gone the other way and painted Obama as hanging out in the smoke filled back room of a seedy Chicago restaurant, playing cards and betting with political deals, but he didn't. Go figure.

Teddy Roosevelt was an insecure, arrogant, controling, racist who wanted to convert you to his god and monetary system. If you want to fit that with any of your comments feel free.

And gee Mo, maybe Matt didn't say that b/c, you know, it's not true.
