Bloodless Coup

There's a great graphic over on Raising Kaine showing all the off-shore drilling platforms Gustav is on track to run right through. Ya'll might want to fill-up in the next day or two.

There are more platforms online now, and the oil companies (not being part of the Bush administration) learned a lot from Katrina and the other storms that year in terms of protecting their investments. I know BP at least has made big efforts to (hopefully) ensure that their deepwater monsters (eg Thunder Horse, which famously got kinda torpedoed last time around) can ride out a Cat4-Cat5 storm and be back up and running quickly.

All that said, this could be a hell of a test, and as I'm sure my old acquaintances at BP would be the first to say, you never really know if this stuff is gonna work until the wind picks up.
