I don't have much time to post this afternoon, so I figured that this topic might be worth throwing out there for some quick responses. I see 3 people definitely running - Romney, Huckabee and Gingrich. Who else do you think is likely to jump in?

Maybe Jindal? Personally I'd think he'd wait until 2016 so as not to run against an incumbent Dem.
Would also expect Crist to at least test the waters.
I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.

Posted by: ryan at October 23, 2008 02:07 PM | PERMALINKWell I think Crist is far too obviously a real threat to be truly attractive to moderates and to win to ever get a shot at the nomination - unless of course he were to enter as the only "moderate conservative" in a field otherwise filled with knuckle draggers.
And I'm not sure what Thune's hook would be.
As to the governors who would seem possibilities I'd say Palin (yikes, but yeah I guess so), Barbour (the guy who a couple years ago I thought would be the '08 nominee), Perdue, Pawlenty, Huntsman and Jindal. I think Jindal could get a lot of support.
I can't think of any senators at the moment. And it seems odd not to have a Texan in the mix, but I can't think of a likely one (though KBH might be in the mix for Vice).

He's Obama in youth and enthusiasm and diversity, but he hates abortion and teh gays (or at least I assume he did, or else how in hell did he get elected in Louisiana). Sign him up!

He's a giant egghead/policy wonk so he'll play far better with the national press as someone who can engage "the issues" in ways they expect. But as the whole exorcism thing might've led you to think he's as right wing as you can possibly be on social issues. I think he'll definitely have backs in 2011 and 2012 - it's more a question of exactly how much money he can tap (I'd guess a lot) and if he decides 2012 is better than 2016. All of this of course presumes Mitch Landrieu, Charlie Melancon or someone else doesn't beat him for reelection.
