Casting the Next Film Adaptation of The Great Gatsby

So Baz Luhrmann is going to make another film of one of the 20th century's best-known novels. If you were going to cast it, who would you pick?

Going off the top of my head, presuming we are sticking with a Mia Farrow-esque Daisy, Amy Adams seems an obvious choice. But if one reason to do another film is to do something a bit different than the Farrow/Redford version, how about Rachael McAdams, Emily Blunt, or Sophia Myles? I'd take Maggie G. as her friend Jordan. For Nick, Lee Pace or maybe Ben Whishaw? For Tom ... hmmm, Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars) could use work now that Moonlight is done. As for the man himself - maybe Patrick Wilson? Or Ryan Gosling? What do you think?

You're casting this as though you're one of several versions of a sane, coherent director who has any business adapting great works. It's Baz Luhrman, though, which means he'll probably cast Madonna, Cuba Gooding Jr., and two people from [insert name of popular vapid teen entertainment]. And also: Rosie O'Donnell as the car. Seriously, Luhrman needs to stick to things like Australia, where I don't have to care what horrible sexual assault he commits against the story.

Gosh Moon, tell us what you really think of him. :)

Other names that were thrown about tonight - Jude Law as Gatsby and Cobie Smulders as Jordan.

That's freakin' hilarious, Moon. It's so nice when we can share in our contempt for the same thing. Who do you think would have to stand in and direct this for Baz in order to get NPH to sign on as Gatsby? I mean, shouldn't Baz be busy writing a screenplay for the next Faulkner adaptation, starring Carrot Top, Patrick Stewart, and Kathy Griffin?

Luhrmann does Faulkner. As I lay dying done MTV-style. R. Kelly as Momma, Trapped in the Coffin (TM).

Nice. I'm still waiting for for Baz to catch his Cronenberg Naked Lunch moment, everyone figures out he's more weird than artistic, then shift to D-List actors. If Baz remakes The Godfather, will Flavor Flav will get the Marlin Brando role?

I can't follow you to Cronenberg, who I think remains a very talented artist. And D-List? Viggo Mortensen (twice), William Hurt, Maria Bello, Naomi Watts? Where are the D-listers in his past couple of films?
