In the wake of Dubai's financial troubles and Abu Dhabi's bailout, the Maktoum's are renaming their most impressive landmark after the leader of the oil-rich emirate (and the UAE).

Picture one of those scary empty brand-new McMansion neighborhoods in FL or CA or AZ that all the real estate blogs were showing pix of a year ago. Now picture a whole city like that, with the "excess" knob cranked up a hundredfold. And then remember: If no one pays the water bills (which are enormous), the place disintegrates.
I won't be at all surprised if the UAE washes their hands of the whole place and lets the desert reclaim it.
