Senator Cornyn Says Republicans Are at Fault for Inciting Murder

The recent comments by US Senator John Cornyn stating that it's not surprising judges are being killed at a time when they are seen as being out of the mainstream of America have been deservedly rebuked by voices all across the blogsphere. But what a lot of the critics seem to be missing is pointed out on Uggabugga. If you follow Cornyn's argument (it's preposterous of course, but let's give the Senator the benefit of the doubt and assume he's logical) it's actually the Republicans who are endlessly attacking the judiciary that are at fault for these murders. Who knows what he first thought when he made his assinine and distasteful comments, but I doubt he sought to incriminate himself.

Insty isn't in the clear, appearing to take at face value (as a proposition if not as a matter of political theatre) Cornyn's retraction, reproduced at the above link. I'd rather not stain my new monitor with the rampant hypocrisy of Cornyn's too-little-too-late some-of-my-best-friends-are-black-people bullsh#t more than I already have, but suffice it to say all Cornyn really has to offer distils to this:

We wouldn't hit 'em if they didn't have it coming. Whatever, if the judiciary's losing respect it's not because of their decisions, but rather because of their effective powerlessness (not to mention their ethical inability) to rebut hare-brained sound-bite hypocrisy from the ragin' right.

This from the party who calls a judicial confirmation process "broken" because it refuses to look away while the right rewards even those cronies who have suggested, in effect, that the whole civil rights revolution warrants one big "Do Over."

And, as a Tony Pierce reader notes, Insty is silent on today's hottest story: the release of new, more damning information about DeLay and his family's involvement with PACs.

Ugh, angry.
