Lieberman's Lamont "Bear Cub" Ad

So I read all the negative press the Lieberman anti-Lamont (or anti-Weicker?) ad was getting, and eventually my morbid curiousity got the better of me. Wow. It really is that bad. When that picture of Joe's face comes up at the end with the "I'm Joe Lieberman and I approved this message" line - I actually almost felt bad for the senator. Almost. What is that campaign thinking? At the moment this is the only explanation that makes much sense.

It's a very stupid ad. That said, I'm having a hard time convincing myself that it's really that much stupider than the average campaign ad.

Referencing an ad no one but the .001% of voters who are political junkies remembers? Not focusig on yourself or your opponent but on a guy who's been out of politics for years. Dialogue that's probably a little too fast and not remotely tied to the images on the screen - so it's confusing too. The Yogi bear look of it all. It's just so childish. And since I presume Lieberman is going to run on being wise and a serious thinker, someone who doesn't get all "partisan" or what have you, someone who's about foolishness and nonsense ... to me, well this is the wost ad I've seen in a long time.

Just ran across this: apparently the ad is a reworking of one he ran eighteen years ago, and is theoretically intended to remind voters who remember the original ad why he ran for Senate in the first place.

I'm not sure whether that makes it better or worse, but it seemed worth mentioning.

A vote for Lieberman is a vote for steadfastness - holding the line against Weicker for 18 years (sure he's 75 and not running for anything, but ...)!

Doesn't make sense to me, either, but I don't live in CT and don't know how this is likely to play out on the ground there.
