Canada's Liberals Have Their "Super Weekend"

So far the results are largely what was widely expected - former Harvard professor Michael Ignatieff has taken the lead, but it's not a commanding lead. Voting will continue throughout the weekend.

What can you say about a political party that won't even scrape the Volpe off its shoes?

Not a bad turn of phrase, but I'd say that the party is accomplishing that pretty well - at the moment he's only got 4.5% of the vote. True, that's higher than Scott Brison and Martha Hall Findlay's support at the moment, but nonetheless 4.5% is a pretty substantial rebuke to his leadership aspirations.

When the front-runner collects only about 30% support the race is far from over.

But who can beat him? Dion and Rae ran poorly in Ontario. And Kennedy, while scoring extremely well in English-speaking Canada, did abysmally (bad, bad, bad, bad) in Quebec.

It'll be interesting to watch how this plays out.
