The 2007 Oscar Nominations

It's a battle of magician movies (among others) for the cinematography award, Volver isn't nominated for best foreign lanaguage film, Dreamgirls isn't nominated for best picture, Mark Wahlberg is in and Jack Nicholson is out when it comes to the best supporting actor nominees ... and no Emily Blunt!?! Well harumph to that.

Feel free to rant or rave about the nominations in the comments.

Wow - I just noticed that Poseidon is an Oscar nominee. Well, I've got to say that the visual effects in that were pretty damn good.

no children of men for art direction!? and just how is borat an "adapted screenplay?" i mean, i see there's a "story by" credit to go with the screenplay, but if that's the simple criteria, than all screenplays are "adapted" inasmuch as all begin with a story idea. well, almost all.

Adapted from the tv show - which I guess had something resembling scripts.

Other reactions from me: Movies set in a current time period (The Devil ..., The Queen) nominated for Best Costumes! That's a refreshing change. And I like that Paul Greengrass has gotten a Directing nomination. Things I'm not too thrilled with? Best song. 3 from Dreamgirls?!? Maybe they are all good, but ... Of course I was dearly hoping to see Ben Folds in that category for his work on Over the Hedge, but I also figured there wasn't really any chance of that happening.
