77 to 19: Garrison "must resign"

"The WVU Faculty Senate has voted to call on WVU President Mike Garrison to resign "for the good of the institution" as a result of the Heather Bresch scandal. The motion passed 77 to 19 with one abstention during a special meeting of the 114-member Senate.

The Senators rejected a second motion that would have simply censured Garrison and a third that recommended no action against the President. "

So the arguments for Garrison at the meeting (I think 4 people spooke up for him Famouri, Bailes, Kite and Marcello somebody) were basically he'll work with the faculty, he's gotten raises approved, he loves WVU, and the people who support the "no confidence" motion really simply have it in for him and don't like him.

To which I'd respond, any remotely competent president should be able to work with the faculty, get raises approved, and care about the university. And even if that bit about the faculty simply having it in for Garrison (which isn't true for the most part) were true - exactly how is that an argument for keeping Garrison around? That is, if a leader has 80% of the people under him conspiring against him - is that really a sign of a good leader? Methinks not.

As someone said at the meeting today, if his mismanagement of his office is so extreme that this kind of scandal errupts from a simple press inquiry, imagine what would happen if the current president's office had to face a real crisis.
