Convention Coverage

So it's Day 1 of the Republican Convention. So far I think the best (or at least the most entertaining) coverage is over on Reason's convention blog. So if you want to get the full drama of the event (or if, like me, you can never get enough of Julian Sanchez) head over there.

As a GOP member, I imagine that many of my friends have been confused about my recent political stance. I try to assure them that I have not been abducted by space aliens or corrupted by that supposed hotbed of liberalism, academia. Still, I have been labeled a liberal more time in the past month than John McCain was during the 2000 primaries. So it is with mixed feelings that I have been tuning into the GOP love fest.

I must admit that I have been watching the GOP convention with pangs of guilt. Its a little like seeing you ex-girlfriend at a bar on Saturday night. On the one hand you hate her, on the other you still want to sleep with her. Watching the GOP drag out practically every moderate they have left too speak on prime time has made me in some ways long to vote Republican. Hopefully these feelings will lessen once Cheney, Bush and that crackpot from Georgia take the podium.

The simple fact is that the GOP has moved too far out of the mainstream. Hopefully enough GOP moderates will see through the "no spin" by November to get W out of the White House before he does anymore harm.

This article by William Salatan offers one of the best explanations I have seen for why moderate Republicans like myself need to vote for Kerry this time around.

Stalin, I rebuilt your post to make the link operative. Email me (this goes for anyone interested) and I can show you the html code so you can do it yourself next time.

Stalin,

Nice comments. I have never voted for a Democrat for President ever before in my life, but I will this year. The Republican party has left me (not the other way around), and the more news that comes out of Washington DC (and, this week, New York) the less happy I get.

Did you catch Zell Miller last night? Where's the dart gun so we can sedate him.
