And on a lighter note than other recent bloodless fare....for those who are unaware, September 19 is international Talk Like a Pirate Day. I've never been the same since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers changed their uniforms. To me that is the day that the world lost its appreciation for the pirate lifestyle (including its bold appreciation for the color orange). But perhaps ... just maybe ... if people do take to the streets and pillage and rampage on the 19th maybe I'll come to think that the old ways aren't lost forever. But until then I'm not leaving my secret treasure cove.

And another Tampa disaster is what has happened to Gasparilla, which used to be a fun, funky event in arty Ybor City. Now it's some pale Mardis Gras ripoff (look at that, Fat Tuesday Restaurant...WRONG! Just wrong!) and Ybor has been invaded by people without funk. Ick ick ick!
Of course, an exception is the ever funky La France one of the best vintage shops I've ever been in, and to whom I am eternally grateful for supplying classic alternatives to the crappy black 80s formals I would have been wearing when I was in the symphonic band at UF.
