Baylor "University" Bans Coffee Cups

Or more to the point, they've banned "gay" coffee cups. Can't have students exposed to paper and ink after all. Oh, wait, since they aren't banning the cups with words by Michael Medved or Jonah Goldberg (heaven help us - they are the best Starbucks could do to encourage discussions of conservative opinions? - if I was a thoughtful right-winger I'd be insulted). They are banning those scary words that point out that life is short and people should live life to the fullest - even gay people.

If Baylor students are such wilting flowers who need that level of "protection" from things that go against their worldview I don't see how they possibly merit diplomas. College should be partially about, oh, learning. And critiquing ideas. If you can't even present certain phrases to the student body, if they are just to shattering to one's own identity to even be seen ... well, I can't say I think that's much of an "educational" environment.

One wonders whether universities should just cease teaching at all, and concentrate on their strengths: parties and football. Imagine the costs that could be saved if all those teachers could be fired and classrooms could be closed. You could turn such a profit!

Concerned Women for America, which says most of the quotes are liberal, believes corporations have a responsibility to reflect the diversity of their customers by taking a balanced approach or staying out of divisive social issues altogether . . . .

So much for the free market, and corporations divorced of all civic responsibility. So they have no responsibility to the environment, their communities, or -- gasp! -- their employees, but they do have an obligation not to wade into public debate with heretical quotations. You're either for us, or please shut the hell up.

It's too bad that every time someone accuses someone on the left of waffling, said person or his proxies doesn't come back with something about the fundamentally schismatic and hypocritical contradictions that have shredded the fabric of conservatism.

"responsibility to reflect the diversity of their customers by taking a balanced approach"

That's crap. What do they call having "gay" coffee and "jonah" coffee becides balancing? I know, I know, I'm sure they think it wasn't balanced enough. And not like they could argue to make it more inclusive (hey, add Ayn Rand or something!) they aregue to reduce the visibility of others they oppose.
