College Football on October 13th

The early games have restored the natural order of the Big Ten - Illinois losing at football, and Ohio State and Michigan standing alone atop the conference standings. Both the Buckeyes and the Wolverines won by huge margins today, so that season-ending game at Michigan Stadium remains as important as ever.

Uh oh. LSU and Kentucky are tied with less than 3 and a half minutes left.

Yep, they lost, thanks in part to a couple questionable calls in first OT, the roughing the passer (that Flynn didn't get when he got hit the next series) and the touchdown spot. Oh well, at least now that it's over, hopefully they won't get anybody else injured. I guess Ohio State may get another shot at a championship.

And the Wildcats knock off the Tigers. Why not in this season?

Yeah this season really is looking like the kind of time when we could see a Boston College/South Florida championship game. Not saying it'll happen, but it's that kind of season.

As I recall, last season featured a lot of defeats of highly ranked teams too, sometimes based on controversial calls. But I'm so sure the referees in college football couldn't be corrupt like those in professional sports are. Right?

The new top 10 is out and South Florida is the #2 team in the nation. As I still think Ohio State will lose to Michigan - can South Florida hold on and end the season #1? Can you believe we are in a situation where the question is even plausible?

I find the new AP top 25 kind of interesting. I continue to think South Carolina is too highly ranked (#6), and I think that Arizona State (#12) might be too low, and Cal (#10) is definitely too low. Cal is still a very strong team, and just b/c a young replacement QB couldn't manage the clock in the final seconds of the game, well that doesn't seem enough to me to drop them from 2nd to 10th.
