The Olympics Doesn't Check the Guys' Junk

But they feel the need to make sure the ladies get looked at. Argh.

Blame the East Germans.

I read that and thought, "They're still doing that?" I vaguely recalled the gender-cheating Soviet-bloc thing from my youth, but jeez. The wannabe radfem in me asks why women should bear the burden of proving that a few males aren't cheating.

And what about transgender/intersex athletes? Are they just out of luck?

The whole thing sounds pervy and ignorant to me, but that's how I feel about most rules and laws affecting only women.

The transgender are surely out of luck, and the intersexed seem to be the primary victims or the screenings. Of course, the initiation of the screening is apparently a sight test of whether a woman is "too manly" looking, then they administer genetic tests. Genetic abnormality, XXY for example, which offers zero advantage in competition has been used as grounds for banning. Surely male competitors also exhibit genetic anomolies (not that I want "girly men" to be checked) that pass by. Gah. The whole thing is such a mess.
