If there comes a day when Sarah Palin drifts out of her no-questions cocoon and actually deigns to talk to the press, someone should really asks her what it is about this form of community service that she thought was so worthy of ridicule. I'd really like to know.
So here is what Giuliani and Palin didn't know: Obama was working for a group of churches that were concerned about their parishioners, many of whom had been laid off when the steel mills closed on the south side of Chicago. They hired Obama to help those stunned people recover and get the services they needed - job training, help with housing and so forth - from the local government. Yeah, but it's not like that was a faith-based initiative or anything . . . if, by "faith," you mean, a narrow band of socially proscriptive, doctrinaire, scripturally dubious evangelical American protestantism.

At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal–loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda
