Filibuster Dead

"The Senate kills off an attempt to filibuster Samuel Alito's Supreme Court nomination with a 72-25 vote to end debate."

Of those 25, only 2 are up for reelection in 2006 and likely to face potentially tough reelection challenges. If you want to reward (or punish) them those would be Debbie Stabenow (D-MI, for now a favorite, but she's only a freshman so you never know) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ, who Jon Corzine just named to fill his Senate seat).

From CNN: "The Senate today approved Judge Samuel Alito's lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, making him the 110th justice. The final vote was 58-42"

Nice dig with the lifetime, eh?

The worst part will be Bush crowing about it in tonights SotU address. The fact that it was contentious, and that people had legitimate fears of his views, will be brushed aside as "unpatriotic" or obstructionist.
