The Year in Review from Edward Copeland and Josh R

If you are looking for things to add to your Netflix queue or muse over while you eat lunch, Edward Copeland has his 10 top movies of the year up. And if you are more theater oriented, Josh R has his 10 top Broadway performances of the year. Of course I had to link to the latter. I mean who doesn't love Martha Plimpton?

And while you are over at that site you might want to give some thought to participating in this year's Oscar survey. The topic this year - the 5 best and 5 worst Best Actor winners ever. I plan to send in my thoughts on that, though I'm having a hard time making my selections.

So I had a terrible time settling on my top 5 best and top 5 worst Best Actor winning performances, but I eventually came up with a list.

Best - Anthony Hopkins, Adrian Brody, Humphrey Bogart, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons

Worst - Denzel Washington, Jack Lemmon, David Niven, Tom Hanks, Roberto Benigni.

Thoughts/reactions?

Alas, I have none, having been so busy this year that I haven't seen any movies that don't come on those shiny little round things and that allow you to fall asleep in your own house while watching. I admire your determination to keep up with culture (and blogging).

Errr - well none of these are new movies. These are my picks for the most and least deserving Best Actor winners ever. Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs being my pick for the best ever - though of course he wasn't clearly a lead in that.

As far as my worst 5 goes, it's not that I think they are bad actors. I'd surely put Lemmon way up on the best American actors list. It's either than I found them wildly overrated and hammy (Washington in Training Day), or annoying (Hanks or Benigni), pretty bad in a terrible movie (Lemmon), or boring beyond belief in a movie that should be part of programs to cure insomnia (Niven in Separate Tables).

True, but even of the old ones, I can't come close to your pace. Plus, the falling asleep during thing.
