"I thought it'd be nice to work somewhere where my mom would not be embarrassed to tell her bridge club about," she wrote of her move to a prominent role in mainstream media."Of course, they all think the Internet is a series of tubes," she said, referring to 82-year-old Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens's description of the Internet last month, comments since lampooned by bloggers and comedians.
-- make one wonder whether she's going to adapt well to her new role in the MSM. yes, Stevens made a sad-but-funny. but editors of dry publications like Time usually don't get to turn them into punchlines, and i'm not sure they should.
Note that she's Washington editor of the Time.com website, not of the magazine. Big, big difference -- in culture, in expectations, and in status.

Posted by: moon at July 28, 2006 02:27 PM | PERMALINKDoes this mean Time.com will begin to use the term "ass-fucking"?
Posted by: baltar at July 28, 2006 02:30 PM | PERMALINKI think that should be the new title of this post. In fact I am going to steal it now.
Posted by: binky at July 28, 2006 02:46 PM | PERMALINKSomebody -- who blogs about this sort of thing -- told me recently that ass-fucking is the new BDSM. Clearly AMC was just ahead of the curve.
Posted by: jacflash at July 28, 2006 05:18 PM | PERMALINKDifferent segment of the market, I think -- jaded thirtyish hipsters vs jaded teens.
Posted by: jacflash at July 28, 2006 05:35 PM | PERMALINKAlthough with our comment spam lately (milf-o-rama) they might overlap.
Posted by: binky at July 28, 2006 06:16 PM | PERMALINKIn a truly marvelous bit of ass-fucking synchronicity, guess who's guest-blogging for Andrew Sullivan this week (and next)?
